The Battlefords Trade & Education Centre Inc. BTEC opened in 1966 under the name, “The Battlefords Sheltered Workshop” with just five participants and one staff.
Our dedication and commitment to providing a safe, friendly, and inclusive environment for adults with intellectual disabilities has remained constant over the past 50 plus years. What started as a small community-based organization has developed into a large centre that 64 participants attend either on a part-time or full-time basis. Our facility is currently the Pfeifer Learning Centre. A 20,000 square foot building that is able to accommodate up to 100 participants.
The North Battleford branch of SARCAN Recycling has been a branch of BTEC since 1989 and provides excellent work opportunities to our members, and has become a staple in the community for recycling.
At BTEC, we have day programs from Monday-Friday for adults living with special needs. Our programs are designed to offer our participants opportunities to express their creativity and have fun. We have various in-house activities, including crafting, karaoke and interactive games to build a sense of community and belonging among our clients.
Our clients are always having adventures. We explore the many things to do around our community, and make up our own activities like scavenger hunts and doing random acts of kindness. Nature walks, trying new restaurants, or visiting the swimming pool & field house are just a few of the activities we do around town. Sometimes we even travel to surrounding cities, towns, lakes or points of interest!
Our programs promote growth, inclusivity and well being!

We are an activity centre for special needs adults – out of school. We do a number of activities. Everything from swimming and bowling, to puzzles and karaoke.
Unless you are a participant, please use the door on 105th Street with the New2You Bookstore sign beside it.
We accept everything except encyclopedias, Reader’s Digest Condensed books, and textbooks. We also accept DVDs and CDs, but NO magazines. The bookstore is open Monday to Friday, from 9:00am to 3:00pm. However, we only accept books on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays.
You must be a special needs adult and have a CLSD worker representing you. The CLSD worker will put in an application, set up a tour of our facility for you, and then your application will go to our Admissions and Transitions Committee to see if you would fit into our program.
We do not provide courses. Although our building is named the Pfeifer Learning Centre, it is a name we were given by Pius Pfeifer; A long time supporter and donor of BTEC.
There are plenty of ways to get involved with us at BTEC. You don’t have to donate or volunteer, you can simply give us a follow on social media or come in and browse our bookstore!
If you’re interested in working with us you can meet our team and view our application form. If you would like to donate to BTEC, we only accept donations in cash, or by cheque.
